How to Obtain an Illinois Liquor License
Interested in opening a bar, restaurant, or gaming parlor in Illinois? One of the first steps you will need to take before you’re eligible for installing video gaming terminals is to obtain an Illinois Liquor License.
Besides qualifying truck stops or fraternal and veteran organizations, establishments that do not have a liquor license won’t be able to place Illinois gaming systems in their location. This is due to the government release of the Liquor Control Act of 1934, although the Illinois Gaming Board still manages the licensing approval process.
Let J&J walk you through the steps of how to obtain an Illinois Liquor License and more!
Local Liquor License Requirements
Local licenses vary in requirements, cost, and type. Any business in the state that is wanting to serve alcoholic beverages must obtain a local municipality liquor license and an Illinois State Liquor License, both of which will need to be renewed on a yearly basis. This goes for retail establishments including bars, restaurants, and more.
You will need to contact the city your establishment is located in to determine their specific laws and steps you’ll need to follow. Once you have obtained this from your municipality, you may apply with the state.
State Liquor License Requirements
Once you’ve obtained your local authentication, you can then start an application for an Illinois Liquor License, which costs $750. The form asks for detailed information regarding your local license, tax documents, business license, federal employer ID, and more, so ensure you have that paperwork readily available.
In the State of Illinois, Liquor Licenses are issued by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) at the state level and follow strict regulations for approval of the distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages. Contact the ILCC to verify if you qualify before filling out your application.
